Azure Integration Services
DATA Passion plans, implements and operates scalable integration architectures on Microsoft Azure. For cloud, hybrid and on-premises systems, vendor-neutral and tailored to your IT landscape.
Modern integration architectures with Microsoft Azure
Many organisations face the same challenges as their integration landscape grows and new requirements arise.
Azure Integration Services is not a single piece of software, but a modular suite comprising several Microsoft Azure services. It enables applications, data, APIs, events and business processes to be connected across cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments.
The appropriate components are combined depending on the requirements. DATA Passion selects the right building blocks for each project and ensures that the architecture remains stable, maintainable and scalable in the long term.
Does This sound familiar to you?
- Interfaces have been added over the years and are now virtually impossible to maintain.
- Point-to-point connections between systems are proliferating unchecked.
- Cloud and on-premises systems need to be connected without any breaks in the process.
- Microsoft Azure has been strategically implemented, but the appropriate integration architecture is still lacking.
- BizTalk is to be modernised or, in the long term, replaced.
- Errors in data flows are detected too late due to a lack of transparency.
- Rising operational and infrastructure costs due to outdated middleware.
The right Azure building blocks for your integration architecture
Each component has its own strengths. DATA Passion deploys them in a targeted manner, depending on the requirements, system landscape and operating model.
Logic Apps
For modelling and automating workflows, business processes and system integrations. It offers a wide range of pre-built connectors and enables rapid implementation without the need for extensive development work.
Area of application
DATA Passion uses Logic Apps when processes need to be integrated quickly and a wide range of standard connectors can be utilised.
Azure Service Bus
For reliable message processing and the decoupling of systems. Messages are processed asynchronously, systems operate independently of one another, and faults do not lead to a total system failure.
Area of application
DATA Passion uses the Service Bus when robust and fault-tolerant integration architectures are required.
API Management
For the secure deployment, management and monitoring of APIs. Interfaces are published, secured and versioned in a controlled manner.
Area of application
DATA Passion uses API management when APIs need to be reliably deployed both internally and externally and managed in accordance with governance requirements.
Azure Functions
For custom logic and extensions when standard functions or low-code approaches are not sufficient. Lean, event-driven and highly scalable.
Area of application
DATA Passion uses Azure Functions when specific processing logic is required that cannot be implemented using off-the-shelf connectors.
Event Grid
For event-driven architectures, in which systems are designed to respond automatically to changes or events. Messages are distributed in real time.
Area of application
DATA Passion uses Event Grid when responsiveness and real-time communication between systems are required.
Azure Data Factory
For data movement, data integration and ETL/ELT scenarios. Large volumes of data are processed and transformed between systems, databases or platforms.
Area of application
DATA Passion uses Data Factory when the focus is on data migration, data synchronisation or complex data pipelines.
Azure Integration Services are particularly useful if Microsoft Azure is already strategically set or planned as a target platform.
DATA Passion helps to find the right architecture and evaluates vendor-neutral whether Azure Integration Services are the right basis or whether other platforms fit better.
- Microsoft Azure is strategically set or planned.
- Cloud and on-premises systems must be connected reliably.
- APIs, messages, events and workflows should be combined.
- Existing middleware is to be modernised or gradually replaced.
- BizTalk is to be supplemented or migrated in the future.
- Integration processes should be scalable, maintainable and future-proof.
- Companies want to switch from point-to-point integrations to a structured architecture.

FAQ: Azure Integration Services
Azure Logic Apps are designed for visual modelling of workflows and processes. With many pre-built connectors, integrations can be implemented quickly, without any deep development effort. Azure Functions, on the other hand, are intended for individual, event-driven logic that cannot be mapped with standard connectors. In practice, both are often combined: Logic Apps for process flow, Azure Functions for specific processing steps.
Azure Integration Services run in Azure, but can be used very well in hybrid and on-premises scenarios. On-premises Data Gateway allows local systems and data sources to be connected to Azure services without having to transfer all data to the cloud. This is a decisive advantage, especially for companies with compliance or data protection requirements.
BizTalk Server is an on-premises platform that has been in use for years and reaches the end-of-life in 2030. Azure Integration Services are the cloud-native successor on Microsoft Azure, with significantly less infrastructure effort, automatic updates and native cloud scalability. Many BizTalk scenarios can be mapped with Azure Integration Services, but the migration requires careful analysis of the existing orchestrations and adapters. Find out more about migration here.
No. Azure Integration Services are a toolkit, not a package that needs to be fully deployed. Depending on the requirement, only the appropriate components are selected. Some projects only need Logic Apps and Service Bus, others add API Management and Event Grid. DATA Passion analyses your requirements and recommends exactly the components that make sense for your integration landscape.
